The PUMA in its Natural Habitat

Always on the move

PUMAs flow through the obstacles of the city with ease.  Smell that confidence?  Yup.  It’s the PUMA.

With legs made for performance, who are they not to use them?  Sure, try throwing an elevator at a PUMA.  They will quickly turn their nose up, and head for the fire exit.  They are the stair masters- the only escalator they will go up is the one that goes down.

That sleek cutie lunging on the sidewalk? Oh ya, look at that form.  Quads to ogle and delts to gape.  Must be a PUMA.  They don’t necessarily want the attention- they just can’t help it.  Just are that magnificent.

They certainly can camouflage well if they so please.  The less evident stair climber, and the: lets-park-far-so-we-can-walk-er.  Casual.  Collected.  Closet body trainers of the city.

The PUMA’s life is sport-its sport is life.

While other animals are sedentary, the pouncing PUMA is at play.  Take a simple bench for example, or a construction site.  The PUMA’s playground.  Care to join the fun?

Bench Action:

POWERSTEP TOEHOPS POWERSTEP2

1. Core Creator:

  • 20 power steps (step onto the bench and continue to a hop, step down), switch legs
  • 10 same knee raises (with one foot on the bench, raise the other knee up to your chest and tap it down to the ground, and back up), back to power steps, and switch legs
  • Once you’ve done both legs, it a mountain climber with hands on the bench for 30 reps
  • Repeat

2. Toe Tap to Lean Legs:

  • 20 toe tap hops, (tapping one foot to the bench and hop to switch legs)
  • 10 lunges off the bench (lunge with back leg elevated, facing away from the bench)
  • Repeat 4-6 times.

3. Arms and Legs:

  • 20 hops with both feet together on and off bench
  • 10-15 decline pushups first round, tricep dips second round, and incline pushups third round
  • Repeat

4. The Stair Master~

See a lot of stairs? Jackpot.

5 minutes stairs- Run up, walk down: focus on speed

3 sets: 30 mountain climbers, 15 pushups

5 minutes stairs- Skip a stair in-between

3 sets: 30 leg raises, 15 V sits

5 minutes stairs: Skip 2 stairs in-between

4 sets: 30 peeing dog leg raises, 20 shoulder taps (switch legs)

Challenge: How many times can you run to the top in 5 minutes?

5. Buns and Thighs: Get hott curves with a curb

  • 30 calf raises on the curb, get off and hop on one leg 20 times.  Switch legs and repeat.

PLAYGROUND

Now, truth be told.  I am not talking about a PUMA.  I am talking about a human.  But we can all be PUMAs.  Break through the social norms of the street corner.  The legs are the largest muscle group.  Let’s go- at least 100 squats a day.  Got to get them in somehow.  Go for it.  Get all the attention.  We both know you look good.

After all, what is life without sport?

 

Father’s Day Blueberry Ice Cream

There are so many ingredients in this delectable treat, I might as well not even write a post about it because it’s too complicated to ever make again, but it sure does look delicious, huh?!

Just kidding, it’s literally just frozen bananas and frozen blueberries.

In a food processor, first whip up the frozen bananas, then slowly add in to get the beautiful blueberry swirl you desire! ❤ Happy father’s day dad!  62 and still kicking my @$$ bike riding (plant based parent problems 😉 ! xoxo

Hudson Library Q & A with Sam Romano

On Saturday June 15, 2013 Sam Romano gave a raw foods demonstration and talk.  He brought cinnamon raisin cookies that he pulled from the dehydrator that morning and and whipped up some banana ice cream on the spot to share as well- rawlish! Ice cream sandwiches!

Apple Cinnamon Raisin Cookie:

  • 2 pounds red apples, cored (5-6 apples)
  • 1 3/4 cup almonds, ground in a food processor
  • 1  1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon
  • 1 cup sweetener of choice dates, coconut nectar, maple syrup, etc) (he used coconut nectar)

In a food processor, shred all of the apples using the grating disk.  Add shredded apples with other ingredients to a large mixing bowl.  Mix well.

With hands press the mixture into about 20 round, flat cookies, approximately 3 inches thick onto teflex sheets.  Dehydrate approximately 24 hours.

Ice Cream:

  • Frozen bananas, whipped up in food processor 🙂

Sam went over everything from his personal story, to protein, to production of fermentation and farts!  A fascinating intimate setting that began with some fun making food indoors, and eating it outside in the sweet sunshine.  With an audience of 10 beautiful participants, it was quite a comfortable afternoon of important information and mind blowing.  These lucky listeners went home feeling excited about the changes that they can make in the right direction towards a healthier life!  All the best to everyone!  ❤

Prevention Is The Cure

Allow me to enlighten you with the power you hold on your plate, as well as a light at the end of the tunnel to get programs designed to provide cheaper access to alternative, holistic health care services!

The owner of “The Organic Garden Café” in Beverly, MA, Rawbert Reid, held a two-day raw foods seminar this past weekend.  Rawbert’s story alone is mind-blowingly inspiring; how he created a raw foods detox for his cancer-laden sister-in-law, who ended up living much longer than anticipated thanks to the cleansing diet.

What was also beyond inspiring to me was how the participants of the course illustrated how the living cuisine not only heals people of their ailments and diseases, but also prevents their reoccurrence.  Each one with a story from kidney stones, to cancer, to chronic fatigue, to no more meds for hyperthyroidism and diabetes; all healed with raw vegan cuisine.

Not to mention, according to the plant-based dietitian, Julieanna Hever, a plant-based diet can:

  • Prevent and reverse almost every chronic disease
  • Solve the health care crisis
  • Bring more compassion to the world
  • Heal the planets devastation
  • Slow the destruction of the ozone layer
  • Stop rapid deforestation and desertification
  • Clean up our air
  • Save millions of gallons of water per year
  • Save billions of animals per year, and prevent their pain
  • Help feed the hungry throughout the world
  • Encourage peace, community, and benevolence

From personal experience and the people I have met, the health care system and diet of Americans today generally maintains chronic illnesses, yet keeps them at a controllable state- a Band-Aid effect, if you will.  Don’t get me wrong; health care is a beautiful thing.  So many amazing miracles happening left and right by brilliant doctors and physicians… when necessary!

I have met at least 100 people who were fed up with the health care they were provided- for it didn’t give them the real cure, or a cure they were happy or satisfied with.   Check out this article– it looks like health care might be getting the right idea!!
